Melanie Sykes - Hand Creams

Melanie’s Favourite Hand Creams

I have only recently, in the last four years, started to really take care of my hands and only in the last six months have started to use marigolds when washing up. Sexy! So, I’m a bit late to the party, but I suppose that reflects in my age. People say that the neck and hands can reveal your age and I think they’re on to something here. This is why I am so careful to take proper care of my hands nowadays!

I have tubes of hand cream in the bathroom, the car, in all my handbags and on the windowsill of my kitchen sink. They are everywhere. I am constantly reapplying them when needed and they are very much part of my everyday beauty kit.

The type of hand cream you will prefer depends on the condition of your hands. If your hands are in relatively good condition, then you might light to use a lighter formula, but if your hands a quite cracked, dry or damaged, then you may want to use something a little heavier. If you’re looking for a really intensive treatment, you could smother your hands in hand cream, before slipping on a pair of gloves to wear for a minimum of 15 minutes or overnight. It may look a little strange, but wearing gloves will help to lock in the moisture and to prevent the cream from rubbing off.

My penchant for hand creams means that I have tried out many over the years. Here are a few of my absolute favourites!

Sainsbury’s Hand and Nail Vitamin E Moisturising Cream

This hand cream is quite wet on application and takes a while to absorb, but once it has, it leaves my hands lovely and moisturised. A great cheap and cheerful option.

Champneys Hand and Nail Cream

This is a good nourishing hand cream, it absorbs well and leaves the skin moisturised and more youthful looking.

SEAMS Hand Cream

This is my absolute favourite hand cream, it immediately absorbed into the skin leaving no residue, so there’s no fear of marking clothes. it really is a top-class hand cream!

Crabtree and Evelyn Tarocco Orange, Eucalyptus & Sage Hand Therapy

Crabtree and Evelyn is one of my guilty pleasures and I say guilty, because obviously it is not the coolest of shops in the world, where everything is modern, slick and quite plain. This is highly floral, vintage and old school. I love the beautiful packaging, the product’s scent is amazing and its intensity in smell and texture feels extremely luxurious.

Dr Organic Manuka Honey Hand Cream

I do like this brand. It’s at Holland and Barrett and I think it’s at a good mid range price. This hand cream has a thick consistency, which needs longer application, but it’s really good and a great barrier cream.

Strivectin Volumizing Handcream

Smarter than your average hand cream, this has multi purposes with complex ingredients. It’s an age fighting moisturiser that’s helps prevent loss of elasticity & minimises discolouration. For me, it’s a total investment in your hands’ future.

A Beautiful product that absorbs quickly and leaves hands looking nourished. It last ages and is great used night before bed. Smooth over the back of the hands and let it do its magic overnight.
