Modern Summer Prints
When it comes to summer prints it has to be all about bright, bold colours and quirky designs, and something as little and inexpensive as colourful tea towels can bring some new life to any home. Take a look at some of our favourite summery prints for some inspiration!
Anorak Rabbit picnic blanket
British made and 100 per cent cotton on the front with a polyester water resistant back for easy wiping, this fun and easy to carry blanket is orange with a pale blue front and dark brown back. It’s from Anorak, costs £36, and is machine washable. Find it here.
Allotment Tea Towel Box
We love Norfolk artist Lottie Day’s Allotment collection of hand-printed and hand-made tea towels. Priced £25 these three screen printed towels of a carrot, spring onion and radish, are also available in a deck chair print, napkins and other kitchen goods. The tea towels are 100 per cent cotton and can be machine washed. Find them here.
Theodora Liberty Print Sewing Machine
Even if you don’t sew, you might be tempted to take it up after seeing this gorgeous machine. Maybe it will inspire you to new levels of creativity? It comes with an all-over Theodora print from the Flowers of Liberty collection and reminds us of Liberty’s long textiles history, not just a destination for the loveliest chocolate and perfumes. Find it here.
This rather cheery little number from Habitat is a graphic hand-drawn design which will lighten up any room I’d think. Priced just £12 and made from 100 per cent cotton and with a polyester-filled pad, you can even buy a roller blind to match. Find it here.
Thornback and Peal Pea pod Tray
Another favourite is this herringbone patterned pea pod tray by British designers Thornback & Peel who screen print designs and put them across a range of products from lamp shades to towels and mugs. This particular design – see main image – may be new but it has a definite sixties retro vibe. It’s funky and produced from quality birch veneer. Priced £20, we’re not sure we can resist. Find it here.
Orla Kiely Bedding
I couldn’t talk about funky summer prints and not include the high priestess of them. This Orla Kiely duvet cover and pillow cases are from her new range and priced around £93 for the set. The set features the very lovely Rosebud print in Corn Yellow. Find it here.
Unikko pattern plate
From the inspiring Marimekko range, I adore this bright red, cheery plate. Yes, it’s going to waken you up with a jolt when you eat your toast off it first thing, but you need to be awake for work anyhow. Priced £20, its dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe. Find it here.
Bluebell Gray Nevis Tray
Trays are our favourite way to bring design and bold prints into the kitchen, and several of our favourite print designers have really beautiful ones out just now. This one from Bluebell Gray is marked down to £15 at The Estate Yard, and features a delicate watercolour print. Find it here.
